As part of a grant from Groundswell Michigan, WMAES 8th graders spent two days working on a Woodland Indian Pottery project lead by Erik VonSteen. The students took raw clay (Erik dug it from the ground), cleaned out the roots and small rocks, and added temper (sand) to it so it could be worked. Each student learned the special technique of creating vessels using the clay and natural items to complete their project. The vessels are drying and will be fired in an outdoor fire pit during Maple sugaring season. We are so proud of the respect shown to Erik and amazed at the beautiful clay vessels they created.
