We are thrilled to announce that West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science has been recognized by the Michigan Department of Education for the 2024-2025 school year! We have received the School Data Utilization for Reading and Behavior award, along with a Tier 1: Silver School Behavior Implementation and Impact award for both our K-5 and 6-12 divisions.
These honors showcase our dedication to addressing the unique needs of every student through the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) framework, a research-based approach that aims to improve student outcomes in academics and behavior. MTSS helps our students succeed alongside their peers. Examples of intervention strategies include:
- Universal screening for all students at the beginning of the school year.
- Providing additional, targeted support for students who face challenges.
- Creating comprehensive plans to address students’ academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
- Adopting a schoolwide approach where teachers, counselors, psychologists, and other specialists collaborate to assess students and plan interventions.
- Offering professional development to enable staff to deliver effective interventions and track progress.
- Encouraging family involvement so parents and caregivers understand and can reinforce interventions at home.
- Regularly monitoring student progress to determine if further intervention is necessary.
- Implementing evidence-based strategies across each level of support.
This recognition is a direct reflection of the hard work and commitment of our dedicated staff, faculty, and students. We also want to highlight our community and thank you for your continued support.
