WMAES offers a variety of programs that let students earn college credit, explore career paths, and gain hands-on experience—helping them prepare for success in college and beyond.
At West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, high school students have access to a wide range of advanced academic and career-focused programs. These opportunities allow students to challenge themselves, explore specialized interests, and gain valuable college credit while still in high school.
From college-level courses and early college programs to hands-on career training and industry partnerships, WMAES prepares students for success beyond graduation. Whether a student is aiming to accelerate their academic path, earn college credits, or gain real-world experience, our secondary programs provide the guidance, resources, and support they need to achieve their goals.

Grade Levels: 10–12
WMAES offers AP classes taught by our own staff, giving students the chance to take college-level courses while still in high school. At the end of the year, students take the AP exam (covered by the school), which can earn them college credit and advanced placement in university courses.

Through our partnership with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), students can take college courses while completing high school. Passing grades earn both high school and college credit—at no cost to the student.

WMAES students can participate in hands-on career training programs hosted by Kent ISD. Depending on the program, students may attend one or two years, with the second year offering college credit. These programs provide real-world experience and skills that directly translate to college and career readiness.

Grade Levels: 10–12
Launch U allows students to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree in five years at no cost. By taking a combination of high school and college courses, students graduate ready to pursue a career or continue with higher education.
Prerequisites: Pass WMAES course with B or higher
Grade Levels: 9–12
Through the CLEP program, WMAES students can earn up to 48 hours of college credit by testing out of courses aligned with the WMAES curriculum. Students study the material and demonstrate college-level knowledge to receive credit, potentially completing two years of college before graduating.
