As of Friday, May 1, West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science (WMAES) has served approximately 10,220 meals to our students since the stay-at-home order went into effect. This number represents breakfast and lunch for five days a week. The meals are packaged in individual sacks but given in bulk on two service days (Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to noon.)  WMAES had a tremendous volunteer response. Our volunteers have included support staff, teachers and teacher support staff, administrators, including our board liaison, and a member of our board.  Many of these volunteers have enlisted spouses and older youth family members.

WMAES is currently approved to serve meals through June per the State (if needed).

We are also responding to the USDA invitation to participate in the Farmers to Families Food Box Program. Farmers sell food previously destined for bulk purchasers (like restaurants), our school purchases these fresh, family-sized boxes of produce, dairy and meat to make up your meals, and then we distribute it to our families. This program was created to prevent food from going to waste during restaurant closures and to continue supporting our local farmers. Learn more about the program here.
