My favorite part of the Beaver Island trip has to be when we watched the sunset from the top of the sand dunes. The view was so amazing as the water calmed beneath the sun! I also enjoyed having a nice breakfast as we watched the sunrise. As these moments were my favorite, I also enjoyed every bit of this trip! Thank you to everyone at CMU for making us feel welcome and showing us the beautiful island.

My favorite part of Beaver Island was the ferry ride. When we arrived in Charlevoix the weather was gorgeous and the lake view was absolutely stunning. At the top of the ferry, I took in the vast expanse before me, the surrounding waters calming, and the sun comfortably shining down on us. Everything else about the trip was spectacular. The hikes, the sun, the beaches, the cabins, everything about Beaver Island exceeded my expectations immensely. I am so grateful that I got to experience this magical adventure!

For me, Service Learning is one of my favorite experiences. I was taken out of my comfort zone and got to know my classmates on a deeper level. We flew out to Washington and camped near the mountains. The entire trip was beautiful, the mountains, waterfalls, plant life, and the city. I learned much about trailwork and nature, like how to maintain a trail, how to install a water bar, use a variety of tools, and so much more. I feel that the trip has made me much more environmentally aware, and it has brought me so much closer to my peers. I believe that every junior should have the opportunity to experience the Service Learning trip.

Something I loved about Beaver Island was the amazing staff not calling out anyone, but Dr. Kevin was the best. I really love his enthusiasm for marine life. I loved the cool fish, crawfish and fossils. The best part of the fossil finding is the mystery of not knowing. The water was amazing! It was just about crystal clear almost as if it was magical. In my perspective, it was amazing seeing all the smiles from other students and adults as well as the great staff. In all, it was an amazing experience. It was the best trip I've ever been on.

Makes me feel thankful for having a job at such a cool and interactive school. I want to be a part of camp each year.

Why Environment Matters

These experiences create lifelong memories, build confidence, and prepare students for college, career, and beyond. Whether it’s riding high ropes at camp, releasing salmon into the river, or stepping onto a college campus, WMAES students are challenged to grow, explore, and achieve more.

How You Can Support

We are seeking sponsorships to help cover costs associated with transportation, materials, and other logistical needs for these trips. In return, WMAES offers several recognition opportunities for sponsors, including:

  • Recognition on our website and social media platforms
  • Acknowledgment in our newsletters and event programs
  • Opportunity to feature your business in our school community events

Your support would not only make a significant impact on our students' educational journey but also reinforce your commitment to community engagement and environmental education.
