Volleyball Team Heads to Districts

West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science’s volleyball team meets Muskegon Catholic Central in its first district tournament game at Fruitport Calvary Christian in Fruitport, MI tomorrow.

It has been a big year for the Eagles. They went undefeated in their conference and received first place! During regular season play, they had an incredible record of 20 wins and four losses. They had some great highlights during tournament play and won the Black River Tournament. They were also placed in the silver bracket for the West MI Volleyball Association tournament.

The team is comprised of eleven girls – three of whom play competitive volleyball year-round. They are a family and encourage one another to be the best that they can be. As a team, they have improved tremendously and believe that they can be the best. More importantly, they have a lot of fun and laugh a lot! Volleyball has become an avenue for these girls to thrive and learn new things.

“We are a family that helps and supports one another on and off the court. I came here five years ago to build a volleyball program at WMAES and this year their hard work is paying off! We have tremendous talent and it has been exciting to watch them grow and care for one another,” Kathleen Kramer, varsity coach, said. “I’m thankful for all the support and care from the administration at WMAES, too. It has been an honor to coach these girls.”

The team has created school pride that permeates throughout its walls. Students are excited about the team’s success and hope they go far during tournament time. Josh Miller, Dean of Students and Athletic Director at WMAES, commented, “This is the year. We are excited to watch the girls thrive on Wednesday. Go Eagles!”
